PRESENTS FOR THE PRISONERS AND THE SICK PERSONS IN THE ORTHODOX  DIOCESE OF LOWER DANUBE

On the occasion of the feasts of Saint Andrew the Apostle (30 November) and of Saint Hierarch Nicholas (6 December), the protectors of the cities of Galaţi and Brăila, the Diocese of Lower Danube organised a charitable missionary programme for strengthening and helping those in need. So, on Wednesday, 26 November, the chaplains in Galaţi, accompanied by archpriest Eugen Buruiană, visited the country hospital of “Elena Doamna” and gave the patients one thousand books of prayer published by the diocesan publishing house for their benefit. Some other 450 books of prayer were offered a few hours later to the patients of the T.B.C. Hospital in the same city.

The same day, in the afternoon, His Grace Casian Crăciun, the local Bishop and the priests of several parishes in Galaţi visited the prison in the city. His Grace Casian addressed a speech of encouragement and teaching to all those imprisoned, through the prison’s television. The priests present over there went from cell to cell, blessing the prisoners and talking with them about the problems they were faced with and giving them more than 2000 books of prayer.

Next day, the city priests visited the children at the emergency hospital of “Saints Chir and John”, the adults at the emergency hospital of “Saint Andrew the Apostle” and the patients of the old people’s home. All of them were given books of prayer amounting to 3400 copies.

Similar distributions of books took place at the hospitals and prison in Brăila city, with the participation of His Grace Bishop Casian Crăciun. The psychiatry hospitals and the county hospital were visited, on which occasion 2250 books were given, while the prisoners received 1500 books.

On 3 December, His Grace Casian visited the minors interned at the Re-education Centre in Tichileşti, to whom he gave 400 books of prayer. The same day, the patients from the country hospital and from the T.B.C. hospital – Brăila were given 1500 books of prayer – we learn from the Press Office of the Diocese of Lower Danube.
