PITTSBURGH - December 10, 2003: A Greek Orthodox priest has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit contending he was fired as pastor of a New Kensington church after he complained about sexual discrimination toward two female employees at the diocesan offices.

The Rev. Leon Pachis, 72, formerly of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of New Kensington, filed the suit Monday against the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Pittsburgh, on Ellsworth Avenue, Shadyside, and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, New York.

Pachis, of Peters, Washington County, who had been pastor since 1995, was fired Dec. 12, 2002, after he complained about the women's sexually hostile work environment, the lawsuit said.

Pachis' attorneys had filed a lawsuit last week in federal court on behalf of the two women, Patricia Patsakis, 53, of Lower Burrell, and Angela Sklavos, 32, of Sharon Drive, Forest Hills.
