On Tuesday, November 15, 2005, Ms. Sylva Etian, the Deputy Director of the Office of Health of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), together with Mr. Neill McKee, Chief of Party and Catherine Yusupova of the project “Healthy Russia” of Johns Hopkins University met with  Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Dean of St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church to discuss various means of cooperation for World AIDS Awareness Day on December 1, 2005.

Among the possibilities discussed was hosting a program entitled “Caring for the Sick and Suffering – World AIDS Awareness Day, 2005” at St. Catherine the

Great Martyr Church, where a moleben for the sick would be served followed by asking a representative of USAID of the US Embassy in Moscow to speak on ways in caring for those with the disease. In addition, “Healthy Russia” would provide literature on HIV/AIDS prevention to all who participate as well as to passersby on the street by setting up a booth outside the church.

More information about this important event will be forthcoming on our website:  http://www.st-catherine.ru.
