New Site for Byzantine Music from St. George Publishing House

St. George Publishing House, a nonprofit organization making Byzantine music in Western notation available to the public at cost, has a new name and website.  Recently renamed Byzantine Music Publishing House,  www.ByzantineMusic.org  is the new web addresss to order from its library of over 7000 hymns and complete services for every day of the Orthodox Christian Church liturgical calendar.

For over thirty years Protopsalti John C. Velon of Moline, Illinois, has transcribed Byzantine melodies and hymns from the Byzantine script into Western notes, with Greek text.   They are made available at cost to Orthodox chanters and choirs throughout the world.  Mr. Velon's music is being used by chanters in over 400 churches in six countries, allowing even novice chanters to serve their communities using the authentic melodies of Orthodox hymnography, and providing a benchmark for music arrangers in the Church.  The National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians has acknowledged this labor of love by awarding Mr. Velon the Romanos Medal, presented to him by His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos of blessed memory, primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

Here is a summary of what's available: Anastasimatarion, Triodion and Main Hymns, including those for Orthros and Esperinos; Pentikostarion, Presanctified Liturgy, Akathist, including Ascension Thursday; Mikri Paraklisi, Consecration of a Church, Nekrosimos Akolouthia, including list of items and where to get them; Exomoligisthe to Kirio, Doulie Kirion, Logon Agathon, Ta Tipika, Epi Ton Potamon Vavilonos, Makarios Anir (Th. Fokaeos, Petros Peloponisios, et al.), Feast Days of Christ and Mary; Vespers and Matins for the entire liturgical year; festal hymns; and specialty hymns by request.

For information online go to www.ByzantineMusic.org  or email deejaquet@aol.com  By post or telephone contact John C. Velon, Byzantine Music Publishing House, 4216 35th Ave., Moline, Illinois, 61265, USA, Telephone (309) 762-3186.
