BLESSING
OF THE SECONDARY SCHOOL ATTACHED TO THE
RUSSIAN FEDERATION PERMANENT REPRESENTATION
TO THE UN

On
November 8, 2005, Bishop Mercurius of Zaraisk,
the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in
the USA, Commenced a Blessing of the secondary
school attached to the Russian Permanent
Representation to the UN in New York, as well as
of the apartment complex for diplomats and
teachers.
The School attached to the Permanent
Representation of the RF in New York, for the
first time in practice of Russian schools
abroad, has included the Foundations of the
Orthodox Culture in its curricula. It also
became a first Russian academic institution
abroad blessed according to the Orthodox rite.
Before the blessing Vladika Mercurius met with
students, teachers. He talked about the meaning
of the ceremony and about the Christian path in
modern life. “We would be able to say that we
have learned right and we have acted right, if
in the most important circumstances we would do
as Christ Himself would have done” – said
His Grace in his address to the audience. Bishop
Mercurius wished teachers a success in their
service to humanity, and he wished students
diligence in studies and good grades. The
Blessing Ceremony ended with “Many Years!”
to “to all leading, teaching and studying”
Meeting with educators and students were also
attended by Rev. Priest Alexander Abramov,
Secretary of the Representation of Moscow
Patriarchate in the USA and Rev. Deacon Rodion
Shamazov, clergyman of St. Nicholas Patriarchal
Cathedral.
