St. George Parish in Lynn, Massachusetts once again steps forward with a record donation of close to $120,000

St. George Parish in Lynn, Massachusetts once again steps forward with a record donation of close to $120,000 to Hellenic College and Holy Cross. The challenge to other parishes is clear for the future growth of these critical institutions of higher learning.

Lynn, MA – Last year’s donation of $100,000 to Hellenic College and Holy Cross was just the beginning for the faithful of St. George’s Parish. This year, at a ceremony held at the Church on Sunday, October 2, Fr. George Tsoukalas and his parishioners presented Rev. Fr. Nicholas C. Triantafilou, President of Hellenic College and Holy Cross with a check for close to $120,000.

Under the leadership of Father Tsoukalas and Peter Katsos, President of the Parish Council, support once again came from parishioners, parish organizations and community organizations as well. These included the Gerondelis Foundation, Community Credit Union of Lynn and Olde Neighborhood Foods. Joining Father George and Peter Katsos in the project, was past Parish Council President, Tom Demakes, a very vocal and ardent supporter of the critical mission of Hellenic College and Holy Cross.

Mr. Demakes, also a member of the Executive Committee of the Hellenic College and Holy Cross Board of Trustees, remarked “We must all work together to raise the awareness of our own Hellenic College and Holy Cross. We, as Greek Americans, should be proud that we have a fully-accredited undergraduate liberal arts college we can call our own, that can nurture our young people and prepare them for rewarding lives both outside of and within the Church. Only we, collectively, can create a culture of excellence for our school by banding together and doing all we can to help it grow and prosper.” Mr. Demakes went on to say that St. George’s Parish should be an example for all Orthodox parishes in America. He urged all communities to contribute and support the College and School of Theology in Brookline.

Fr. Tsoukalas of St. George added, “Hellenic College and Holy Cross are beacons of our faith and heritage. We must keep their light burning brightly, as that light has far reaching consequences all over our country.” The monumental efforts of St. George’s were confirmed by blessings from His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston, who congratulated the parish and leadership of St. George’s.

“Father George; Tom Demakes; Peter Katsos, Parish Council President; Diane Stamatopulos, Philoptochos President; all organizations and all parishioners of the St. George Parish have set an unprecedented standard for support of our beloved Schole. Their interest in assisting our School to meet its calling in providing priests and lay leaders for our Metropolises and Archdiocese is a beacon that enlightens us all, “ stated Rev. Fr. Nicholas C. Triantafilou, President of Hellenic College and Holy Cross upon accepting St. George’s donation.

Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology is the only fully accredited Christian Orthodox undergraduate liberal arts college, graduate center for Orthodox higher education, and Greek Orthodox seminary in America. Hellenic College serves liberal arts minded students with an undergraduate curriculum of professional preparation grounded in Orthodox Christian values as well as Religious Studies program designed to prepare students who will continue their graduate studies at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Theological School. The schools are located at 50 Goddard Avenue in Brookline, Massachusetts.
