Fifth annual Orthodox Prayer
Service for UN Community to be held October

NEW YORK, NY [OCA
Communications]
— For the fifth year in a row, the Joint
Commission of the
Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox
Bishops in the Americas [SCOBA] and the
Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox
Churches [SCOOCH] will sponsor their annual
Orthodox Prayer Service for the United Nations
Community at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox
Archdiocesan Cathedral here Tuesday, October
11th, at 6:30 p.m.
This year's service will commemorate the UN's
60th anniversary.
Among the speakers are His Eminence,
Metropolitan Christopher of the Serbian Orthodox
Church in America, and Ambassador Dr. Milos
Prica, permanent representative of Bosnia and
Herzegovina to the UN. The theme of their
remarks will be "Building a Community to Work
Towards Peace and Tolerance."
Invitations have been extended to Orthodox
ambassadors and delegates of the various UN
missions, Orthodox Christians serving on the
secretariat staff, and the heads of Orthodox NGO
All Orthodox Christian faithful in the
Metropolitan New York area are invited to attend
and to join in praying for world peace and
understanding.
Cochairs of the joint commission are His
Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian [Armenian
Church of America] and His Grace, Bishop
Dimitrios of Xanthos [Greek Orthodox
Archdiocese]. Members of the prayer service
committee include the Rev. Djokan Majstorov
[Serbian Orthodox Church], the Rev. Dr. Robert
Stephanopoulos [Greek Orthodox Archdiocese]; The
Very Rev. Dr. Anthony DeLuca [Malankara Syrian
Orthodox Church]; the Very Rev. Simeon
Odabashian [Diocese of the Armenian Church]; the
Very Rev. Chorepiscopos John Meno [Syrian
Orthodox Archdiocese]; the Rev. Emmanuel
Gratsias [Greek Orthodox Archdiocese]; and Mr.
David Lucs [Orthodox Church in America].
