Upcoming Handmaiden Issue Focuses on Forgiveness and Reconciliation

August 25, 2005, BEN LOMOND, CA—Forgiving someone who has hurt us, especially if the person is very close to us, often seems impossible. Hurt and anger go deep, and broken relationships and divisions soon follow.

As Orthodox Christians, we have the Church and the wisdom of the Fathers to help us heal our wounds so that we can forgive and reconcile with others, even when it seems unattainable.

In this upcoming volume 9, number 3 issue of The Handmaiden, a variety of authors have written on the topic of forgiveness and reconciliation. Fr. Jonah, Abbot of the Monastery of St. John of San Francisco is interviewed about this issue, and his insight and advice is profound. Kh. Maggie Hock, the director of the Department of Marriage and Parish Family Ministries for the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, focuses on marriage in an article entitled, Reconciling Our Most Intimate Relationships. And Fr. Michael Gillis writes on Exterminating the Roots of Bitterness.

This issue of The Handmaiden also has an excellent article on confession, along with a host of regular columns, such as: Heroines of the Faith (lives of female saints); The Orthodox Home (helping women to fulfill their role as the heart of home); Woman to Woman (a forum for readers to share ides and thoughts); Books to Treasure (reviews of books by, for, and about women); Culture Currents (interviews or articles on contemporary issues facing women in the Orthodox Church of the twenty-first century).

About The Handmaiden:

With the Handmaiden of the Lord, the Holy Theotokos, as its guide, The Handmaiden strives to be a beacon of light, a place where Orthodox Christian women and others who are interested in Orthodox life and spirituality can come together to learn, share, relate, and grow. Join us as art of the Handmaiden community, as we prayerfully and joyfully struggle to become the women of God we long to be.

The Handmaiden is published in a 64-page journal (6" x 9") format. *
