ALEKSY II DISCUSSED THE ISSUE OF TERRORISM
WITH US AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA ALEXANDER

Patriarch
of Moscow and all Russian Aleksy II and US
ambassador to Russian Federation met and
discussed the issues of the international
terrorism threats, reports RIA “News”.
The summit was held on July 13 at Patriarch’s
work residence. The meeting was initiated by
conclusion of the Vershbow’s 4-year term of
service.
“These years with remain in our memory as years
of relationship improvement not only between our
leaders but also between out whole nations”,
said Aleksy II.
“However these years had had tragedy. On
September 11 we all suffered with the tragedy
that distressed New York, USA”, - he pointed
out. Patriarch reminded, the passionate prayers
that were held in Moscow for the victims of this
terrorist act.
Vershbow, in his turn, compassionately recalled
of the terrorist acts that took place in Moscow
and Beslan.
Both sides of the dialogue named terrorist acts
in Madrid and London as links of the one chain.
“We hope that with collaborative efforts we
could effectively counteract terrorism - the
issue that we did not have to encounter before”,
- said Aleksy II.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church and
Moscow Patriarchate thanked Mr. Vershbow for his
efforts in development of Russian-American
relations, for his cooperation and support of
the OCA Representation in Moscow. “We have
developed a great relationship”, - said Aleksy
II, having mentioned that he met with Mr.
Vershbow numerous times.
“We hope, that we will meet again in future”, -
concluded Patriarch.
Alexander Vershbow, in post meeting press
conference, noted that he and the Patriarch came
to the same conclusion “regarding the role,
which Church could play in the battle with
present-day challenges such as terrorism and
social diseases.”
“The most important is the educational role of
Church, that teaches people values that baseline
any civilization, which are the resistance to
the ideology of terrorism and impatience towards
members of other nationalities and religion”, -
remarked Mr. Vershbow.
