BOSTON – The Executive Committee of the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Endowment Fund unanimously confirmed, with the blessing of Archbishop Demetrios of America, the appointment of Paulette Poulos, longtime aide and confidante of the late Archbishop Iakovos, as Director of Development, Leadership 100 announced last week. The appointment will be effective on September 1.
Ms. Poulos has been associated with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America throughout her working career. She joined the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in 1965 and has served in various capacities of increasing responsibilities, including Director of LOGOS and Associate Director for Stewardship Ministry (1972-1984). LOGOS was the Archdiocese’s first endowment fund of the Archdiocese. From 1984 to 1996, Ms. Poulos served as Archbishop Iakovos’ administrative assistant and remained with him until his passing this past April. She was the driving force in raising the necessary funds ($10 million) to complete construction of the Archbishop Iakovos Library & Research Center at Hellenic College/Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts. Her dedication and loyalty to the Church and to Archbishop Iakovos is widely recognized as instrumental in helping him remain active throughout his ecclesiastical life. In an interview with Mr. Payiavlas and Ms. Poulos, Mr. Payiavlas said, "The Executive Committee and I think that Paulette will be a strong force for Leadership 100, and I can not say enough good things about her because we all know what she has done for the Church. I am just very, very happy and very comfortable having Paulette on board." Speaking to the Herald, Ms. Poulos said that she fells "honored and humbled" with her appointment to the organization. "I’m honored because they considered me and humbled because, of course, the organization bears the name of Archbishop Iakovos. I look forward to a long and meaningful relationship and projecting the ministries of our Church and helping the Church on a wider scale," she said. Leadership 100 – with 705 members (each of whom has pledged $100,000 over a 10-year period, and 277 of whom have fulfilled their pledge), and a current endowment of $50 million – is an independent charitable fund whose mission is to preserve and perpetuate the Orthodox Christian faith and Hellenic heritage through financial support of activities which enhance the ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Since its inception in 1984, Leadership 100 has provided grants totaling more that $18 million. Recipients of funding have included, among others, the National Ministries of the Archdiocese; the revolving Leadership 100 Seminarian Scholarship Program at HC/HC ($10 million); and the Retired Clergy Assistance program. Leadership 100 became an independent not-for-profit corporation in 1998, maintaining its offices at Archdiocesan Headquarters in Manhattan. Rev. Demetrios Antokas is Executive Director. Rev. Antokas succeeded Rev. Alexander Karloutsos in May 2004.
