July 1, 2005 Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Los Angeles, CA In your inaugural speech, this morning, you completely ignored Eastern (Greek) Orthodoxy, while mentioning Moslem, Jewish, Protestant and Catholic. Certainly courtesy demands an explanation and an apology for the exclusion of Greek Orthodoxy, an ancient Christian faith, which is recognized as one of the four major faiths in the United States of America. Enclosed is the background of my 50-year struggle for the respect and recognition of this ancient faith. During your campaign, you attended several Greek Orthodox Churches to meet and greet and to get your name before our voters. Now, however, you seemed to have overlooked us during your speech.
