PARISH LOCATION ANALYSIS PUBLISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF OUTREACH AND EVANGELISM

The Department of Outreach & Evangelism of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America announces the release of a new booklet titled, PARISH LOCATION ANALYSIS: A Step-by-Step Process to Assess the Feasibility of Establishing, Sustaining & Growing a Greek Orthodox Parish. This location analysis outlines a process to assess the feasibility and potential of establishing and/or growing a parish based upon several factors, including projected population growth trends and demographic analysis of traditionally Orthodox ethnic groups. This booklet will be useful not only for new parishes, but for existing parishes considering a change of location, and for existing parishes seeking to determine the growth potential of their current location.

The author of this booklet, Ms. Diana Kiozpeoplou Grina first performed this systematic location analysis for her own newly formed parish as the Parish Council struggled with the question of optimal parish location. At the request of the Department, Ms. Grina shared her methods so that they may be implemented by parishes throughout our Archdiocese.

Fr. James Kordaris, Director of the Department of Outreach & Evangelism stated, “We hope that this booklet will be a tool for discussion and action in parish councils, outreach committees, and among all concerned Orthodox Christians. We pray that these methods will assist us in reaching and serving ever greater numbers of people thirsting for the Truth of Orthodox Christianity.”

To obtain copies of the Parish Location Analysis, contact the Department by email (outreach@goarch.org), telephone (646/519-6160) or fax (646/519-6166). The price is $12 per copy including shipping and handling. Numerous additional resources are available on the Department web site at www.outreach.goarch.org.

The Archdiocesan Department of Outreach & Evangelism was established by Archbishop Demetrios of America in January 2003 “…to bring the Gospel of our Lord to all those within the boundaries of our Archdiocese of America who thirst to know The Way, The Truth and The Life.” The mission of the Department of Outreach & Evangelism is to revitalize the faith of active Orthodox, reach out to inactive Orthodox Christians, meet the needs of those inquiring about the Orthodox faith, offer tools for parish renewal, and offer guidance in the establishment of new parishes.
