New York, NY - “Iakovos: A Legacy” will be
re-broadcast nationally on the Hallmark Channel,
Sunday, May 8th from Noon-1:00 p.m. (ET/PT) and
11:00 a.m. (CT). Please check local listings. The
1996 Emmy Award winning program was produced by
the television ministry of the Greek Orthodox
Archdiocese of America, GOTelecom, on the occasion
of the retirement of the former Archbishop of the
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North and South
America. Archbishop Iakovos passed away on April
10, 2005 at the age of 93.
In this re-broadcast special, His Eminence
Archbishop Demetrios of America offers an
introduction to this hour-long documentary.
Archbishop Iakovos was the spiritual leader of the
Greek Orthodox Church in the Western Hemisphere
for 37 years. Building on the work of his
predecessors, he guided the Greek Orthodox Church
and the Greek American community through their age
of maturity to assume their rightful place in this
land, as vibrant and visible members of American
Society. The documentary captures the highlights
of his long career and examines the effect of his
leadership from the perspective of the people who
knew him best.
