To the Editor, We have learned, to our deep sorrow, of the demise of our beloved Archbishop Iakovos, and we share the grief of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America on the loss of Her Primate of more than three decades as spiritual leader of more than two million Greek Orthodox faithful in the United States of America. The blessed memory of His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos and the achievements of the man as a cleric are abundantly clear to people of all religious creeds. He had made many vital and important contributions to the Greek Orthodox Church in America, and to society at-large, and in my opinion, it is the blessing of God Almighty which made his tenure so valuable and fruitful. We genuinely lament the loss of this outstanding worker for Holy Orthodoxy, prominent ecumenist and zealous champion of durable, just and lasting peace. His Eminence was truly a leader among leaders, and his very active and successful role in the Nation’s civil rights movement provided just one of many shining examples of the type of outstanding Archbishop Iakovos’ leadership. I join clergy and the hierarchy in offering up diligent prayers to the Master of life and death for the blessed repose of the soul of our late Primate of blessed memory. Respectfully submitted,
