To the Editor: I would like to offer my opinion about Theodore Kalmoukos interview with Father Nick Triantafilou in the March 5 edition, in which Mr. Kalmoukos refers to a so-called "Karloutsos dynasty." I was a classmate of Jim and Father Alex Karloutsos at Hellenic College and Holy Cross School of Theology, and thus also know Father Peter Karloutsos, as well. They are my brothers. It seems strange to me that someone, whoever it might be, would label service in the vineyard of the Lord by three people of the same family "dynastic," regardless of the positions they hold. Moreover, their father, Archimandrite Michael of blessed memory, was a priest who served the church here in America faithfully for many years. Instead of speaking of a "dynasty" in the instance of the service of the Karloutsos brothers, we ought to glorify God that such a father and priest lived, and that three of his sons now serve the church. Would it not also be a great blessing if there were among us many more such families with so many children who would choose to serve the church? John Papson |
