The Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion (OCAMPR) will sponsor an introductory Parish Nurse Seminar at Hellenic College/Holy Cross Seminary Boston, Massachusetts on August 12, 13 and 14, 2005.  All Orthodox nurses nationwide are invited to attend to learn about the ministry of Parish Nursing.  The seminar is planned to introduce the practice of Parish Nursing to Orthodox nurses and the Orthodox community.

The objective of the seminar is to provide informational and spiritual knowledge of how the Parish Nurse functions in the parish. It is expected that those who attend will return to their parishes and establish a Parish Nurse Ministry.

Although the current concept of Parish Nursing originated in the mid 1980s with Granger Westberg, a Lutheran pastor, it builds on the holistic approach to health and wellness that Byzantine Christians spearheaded from the 4th and 5th centuries down to our present times.

The concept of Parish Nursing brings the expertise of a nurse into the congregation to help reclaim the church’s role as a place of healing and wellness. As our church has always preached and as OCAMPR has sought to embody, true healing involves the body, mind and spirit.

Parish Nursing is a ministry shaped by Christ’s mission of healing the whole person mind, body and soul.
