The National Herald has learned that the special tray the Archdiocese requested from parishes across the United States for the tsunami victims of Southeast Asia Catastrophe raised $250,000. Archbishop Demetrios is scheduled to travel to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople this coming Tuesday, February 22, to attend a meeting of the Holy & Sacred Synod. The Archbishop is expected to personally deliver the money to the Patriarchate, which will forward it to authorities and relief services of the affected countries and localities. The Archbishop is also expected to deliver a $25,000 donation from the National Philoptochos Society in support of the Patriarchate, as well as a portion of the $500,000 contribution that the Archdiocese gives to the Patriarchate annually. That amount has remained unchanged for at least the last 15 years, and it is not given in its entirety (and almost never on time, but usually after many reminders of the part of the Patriarchate).
