Farah Foundation Awards Grant for Orthodox Christian News Service

(West Palm Beach, FL – Feb. 16, 2005) The Board of Directors of Orthodox Christian Laity (OCL), a not-for-profit educational ministry, is happy to announce that its Orthodox Christian News website is the recipient of a $10,000 grant award from the Virginia H. Farah Foundation, Wichita, Kansas. The Farah Foundation, one of the few Pan Orthodox foundations, makes grants for the maintenance and growth of the Orthodox Christian Church in the United States and the world. It also supports the work of Orthodox Christian Church Organizations that improve the lives of disadvantaged children and enrich and improve the quality of life for older citizens.

OCL President Lee Kopulos said: “With the support of the Farah Foundation, Orthodox News has developed into a respected independent source for the latest developments in world-wide Orthodoxy. Orthodoxnews.org receives approximately 205,000 visitors a year (204,649 in 2004), and is used by students, scholars, journalists, clergy and the public interested in Orthodox Christian news world-wide. We are grateful to the Farah Foundation for helping this news service set down a strong foundation by assisting OCL in getting the professionals needed to develop it.”

In this second year of funding by the Farah Foundation, Orthodox News will put its extensive archives on line, because there have been requests by students to have access to the information from the past. “This year we must look ahead to the time when grant funding is no longer available,” commented executive director George Matsoukas. “Orthodox News will ask its many readers to make designated donations to maintain the service when the grant funding ends. We do not want this to become a subscription service, but rather feel that those who value the service might make a donation to keep it available for all who are interested in the independent news of world Orthodoxy, if they are asked to participate in its future development.”
