An icon of Saint Anthony the Great was found in a crypto-church near Nafplion last week. It is believed to be the same icon which Greek Revolutionary War hero Nikitaras gave to the Holy Panagia Church in Nafplion after he led a small band of Greeks to victory over the Turks in the Battle of Valtetsion in Arcadia. The icon, dated from 1821, is considered an important find. The feast day of St. Anthony was celebrated this past Monday, January 17.
