Rewarding Opportunities are in the Mission Field

The Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC), St. Augustine, FL - OCMC Missionaries assist in the growth of the Orthodox Christian Faith around the world and many hierarchs are currently searching for people to serve the Lord in the mission field. Challenging, demanding, but rewarding opportunities await those called to respond to Christ’s command to “go and make disciples of all nations”.

God calls many people with diverse talents and from different walks of life to respond to His command. In addition to preaching the Gospel, OCMC Missionaries serve as teachers at seminaries, child-care workers, substance abuse counselors, youth workers, English as a second language (ESL) teachers, doctors, nurses and priests.

People with experience working with young adults, youth and children have a lot to offer as missionaries. They can make a difference in an orphan’s life in Guatemala, teach English to kindergarten students in Korea or nurture youth in Albania, Argentina or Uganda.

Those who can help train the next generation of indigenous Church leaders by teaching at a seminary in Alaska, Albania, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda are in great demand. Seminary graduates are especially encouraged to apply for these positions. The young people who are taught the Orthodox Faith today, will teach others the fullness of the Faith tomorrow.

Health care workers are called to do mission work too. In Kenya, doctors and nurses are needed to serve at one of two Orthodox medical clinics. In Romania, substance abuse counselors are needed for counseling and training to help with a growing program already in place.

To help minister to the spiritual and sacramental needs of many, priests are needed in Alaska, Argentina and Kenya. Isolated communities where the faithful only have the opportunity to receive the sacraments a few times a year are hungry for pastoral guidance and a fuller sacramental life.

Many of these opportunities call for at least a 2-year commitment. Even if you’ve only just started to think about missionary service, it’s not too early to begin praying about this possibility for your life. Find out about the process of becoming a long-term missionary by contacting the Orthodox Christian Mission Center’s Missionary Director, Maria Gallos, at missionaries@ocmc.org or at 1-877-GO-FORTH (463-6784). Visit www.ocmc.org/missionaries.php to find out more about OCMC Missionaries and for a detailed list of all the current missionary opportunities.
