New Book Examines Role of Russian Orthodox Church in Politics and Society in Russia

Draft chapters of a new book examining the role the Russian Orthodox Church has played in the construction of democracy and civil society in post-Soviet Russia are now available for review at http://www3.baylor.edu/Church_State/orthodoxy1.html . Burden or Blessing?

Russian Orthodoxy and the Construction of Civil Society and Democracy is the outgrowth of a project spearheaded by Boston University's Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs. The book is edited by Professor Chris Marsh of Baylor University and brings together Russian, American and European scholars to analyze and discuss the interrelationship between religion and politics in contemporary Russia.
