At the Divine Liturgy celebrated on 26 October – the day of Saint Martyr Dimitrie, the Myrrhbearer - on a stage specially arranged in front of the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist announced that the Romanian authorities have finally approved the construction of the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation in Carol Park, in the capital city of the country. “Our Patriarchate ought to have a Cathedral of its own. This is a wonder of our faith and a result of our patience, of the priests, and of the faithful alike, as the Parliament of the country approved this bill unanimously. There is no need, as first required, of any signatures to justify such a monumental Cathedral of the Nation. You heard in the sermon today that such a Cathedral does not belong only to our generation. It represents the immortality of our nation, the remembrance of the Romanian heroes dead in all places and all times. Their signatures are in heaven, as they pray for fulfilling this purpose of ours. This is why we also came together today here, at the Divine Liturgy, to thank God for what was fulfilled today and pray He to keep on helping us as a great amount of work is waiting to be done.”
