A Russian woman was among many people who attended a memorial service yesterday at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul which was held for the victims of the school siege in the southern Russian town of Beslan earlier this month. Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios said no religion blessed terrorism. The entire Most Holy Orthodox Church in the whole world participates in this bitter mourning, Vartholomaios said. There is no religion that blesses terrorism, the blind violence, the crime, the killing of the innocent. The September 1-3 school siege blamed on Chechen rebels ended in a hail of gunfire and explosions.
