Florida Greeks Pay Tribute To 9/11 Victims
CLEARWATER, Fl. – Despite ongoing harsh weather conditions in their state, and in defiance of hurricane “Frances,” that loomed nearby, many Florida Greek-Americans attended a liturgy held on September 8 in Clearwater, in memory of September 11, 2001 victims Michael C. Tarrou and his fiancée Danielle. The couple was aboard United Flight 175, when terrorists flew their plane into the South World Trade Center Tower on that fateful morning, three years ago. Tarrou and Danielle were both Florida residents and worked together as flight attendants. Tarrou was the son of famous Cypriot-American Dr. James Tarrou, who at last week’s memorial service received a box containing soil from Ground Zero by Metropolitan Pavlos G.O.C. of North and South America. Tarrou thanked the Metropolitan for his gesture, which was made on behalf of all the victims of September 11. The Metropolitan, who presided over the liturgy, spoke of, “a cowardly attack, that cost the lives of thousands of innocent people.” He also condemned this month’s recent Beslan School siege in Russia, which cost the lives of hundreds of people, among them children.
“Problems should
be solved peacefully, as taught by our Orthodox
Christian religion,” the Metropolitan said. A
dinner hosted by Mr. Tarrou followed the liturgy. |
