His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia Meets with His Excellency Georgi Pyrvanov, President of the Republic of Bulgaria
Also taking part in the meeting were: from the Bulgarian side Mrs. Zorka Pyrvanova, President's wife; deputy chairman of the People's Assembly Lyuben Koriezov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Russian Federation Ilia Vasilev, President's chief secretary Krasimir Stoyanov, coordinator of the Bulgarian Orthodox Foundation Milena Elisaveta, benefactor of the Foundation Sasha Donchel and Metropolitan Ioanniky of Sliven; from the Russian side Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk and head of the protocol of the St. Petersburg administration I.S. Artishevky. His Holiness Patriarch Alexy cordially greeted the high guests and told the President of Bulgaria and his suite about the history and the present-day ministry of the renowned St.John's Monastery, about the monastery's church dedicated to St. John of Ryla and about the Russian tradition of venerating this outstanding zealot of piety. After the talk the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church invited the President of Bulgaria and members of his delegation to visit the Cathedral church of the Twelve Apostles, where the guests venerated the particle of the relics of St. John of Ryla which was presented to the Monastery by His Holiness Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria. After that His Holiness Patriarch Alexy and the Bulgarian guests visited the Church dedicated to St. John of Ryla - the first church built in the Monastery and consecrated by St. John of Kronstadt.
That same day His Holiness Patriarch Alexy left
for Tikhvin to take part in the solemn meeting of
the miraculous Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God,
which was brought home from abroad. |
