HC/HC President Announces Office of Spiritual Formation and Counseling Services

June 23, 2004

Brookline, MA -- The Office of Spiritual Formation and Counseling Services, under the co-leadership of Rev. Nicholas Krommydas, D. Min., Pastoral Care Director, and Michael A. Kallas, M. Div. and licensed marriage and family therapist, Psychological Care Director has begun operation. Services offered include counseling and referrals, vocational exploration and guidance (in collaboration with Career Services and the Office of Vocation and Ministry), psychological assessment, spiritual fathers (in collaboration with the Office of Student Life), chaplaincy (also in collaboration with the Office of Student Life), and spiritual assessment.

A concrete program for the evaluation and formation of seminarians was announced to the HC/HC community by its President, Rev. Nicholas Triantafilou. The program begins with a comprehensive assessment and continues with a variety of activities and regularly-scheduled feedback sessions to promote formation of and preparation for priestly vocation. Ultimately the stewardship of the seminarian program is the responsibility of the President and is carried out in consultation with an Advisory Board.

While the initial focus is on new students applying for the seminarian program, some services, such as counseling and referrals, vocational guidance, and the spiritual fathers program, are available to all students and their families. Additionally, the Marriage & Family Enrichment Program continues and academic support services for students with learning disabilities are beginning. Long-term goals include phasing ongoing seminarians into the formation program, as well as other students who are seeking to fulfill their vocations in a variety of ministries, both ordained and lay.

More information can be found on the school’s website www.hchc.edu.
