$23,000 awarded by
Katina John Malta Scholarship Program for 2004-05

New York, NY -- The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of
America recently announced the recipients of
scholarship awards for the 2004-05 academic year
from the Katina John Malta Scholarship Program.
This year a total of $23,000 in awards were given
to the following students:
Christina Maria Lagos (Dunedin, FL)
Anthony N. Zorzos (Rockville, MD)
Christine Lipinski (New Hyde Park, NY)
J. Anthony Kosar (Lisle, IL)
Angeliki Maria Horiates (Pennsauken, NJ)
Dimitra Zampraila (Amherst, MA)
Demetri Arnaoutakis (Dunedin, FL)
Pericles Camberis Abbasi (Chicago, IL)
Donna Balaouras (Watertown, MA)
Eleni Gouvas (Oak Park, IL)
Jeffery L. Walker (Abilene, Kansas)
Nicholas P. Abud (Grand Blanc, MI)
Erin M. George (Denville, NJ)
Mary Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex, NJ)
These students were selected by the Scholarship
Committee from the numerous applications received
by the Archdiocese, and each received scholarships
ranging from $1000 to $2000. Four of the
recipients were from other Orthodox jurisdictions,
two from the Antiochian Archdiocese of North
America, and two from the American Carpatho-Russian
Archdiocese.
The Katina John Malta Scholarship Fund is a new
scholarship program established at the Archdiocese
in 2002 by means of a generous gift from the
estate of Katina John Malta. The donation and the
formation of the scholarship program has been done
in recognition of the love Katina had for the
Church and in honor of the desire she had to help
others, especially children and youth. The program
awards at least two scholarships of $2000 each
academic year. The program is open to all Orthodox
students of the jurisdictions of the Standing
Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the
Americas (SCOBA).
Application forms are available upon request from
the Office of the Chancellor, Scholarship Office,
10 East 79th Street, New York, NY 10021. The
application deadline for 2005 will be April 15.
