A dinner over Faith and Hellenic Culture

We hope we would be forgiven our asking, but somehow we thought that the project “Faith and Hellenism” was taken care of by generous pledges made by some of the wealthiest Greek Americans, as per the announcement made just before Christmas by our Archdiocese.

After all, this time we are stunned to hear that His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios had approximately 35, mostly wealthy Greek Americans—including George Tenet and John Negroponte—over at the Archdiocese to talk, yet again, about “Faith and Hellenism” in America. We are also told that His Eminence delivered a lecture on the meaning of Hellenism in contemporary America. No, the issue of money did not come up. That will follow later.

We are ready to admit the social value of such meetings. After all, it is not often that our most wealthy fellow Greek Americans from across the country meet in New York, under the watchful eye of Father Alex, to break bread. Therefore, a great value ought to be assigned to these undertakings and one would hope to see more of them.
