 Archbishop Demetrios Welcomes Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios welcomed recently-elected Prime Minister of Greece Constantine Karamanlis to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese on Tuesday, May 18, as the Prime Minister began his first official visit to the United States.

Immediately following greetings and the exchange of gifts the Prime Minister and the Archbishop held an hour-long meeting discussing issues of mutual concern including Education and the upcoming Athens Olympics 2004.

Prime Minister Karamanlis was accompanied by his wife, Natassa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Petros Molyviatis; Minister of State & Government Spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos: Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs Takis Skandalakis and Yiannis Valinakis; the Ambassador of Greece to the United States George Savvaides and Consul General of Greece in New York Catherine Boura.

Archbishop Demetrios then accompanied Mrs. Natassa Karamanlis to Astoria to visit the Parochial Schools of St. Demetrios Cathedral.

Prime Minister Karamanlis is scheduled to meet with President George Bush at the White House on Thursday, May 20.
