Applications being accepted for 2005 Mission Planting Grants

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] -- The Department of Evangelization of the Orthodox Church in America is pleased to announce that applications for the 2005 Mission Planting Grant are now being accepted.

Each year the Department awards up to five grants to qualified mission communities. The $15,000 annual grants, which can be renewed for a maximum of three years, are specifically designated to assist in providing salaries for full-time resident mission priests. Missions receiving grants must match the grant amount.

"Since the program was established several years ago, nearly 20 missions have received grants,” according to the Rev. Eric Tosi, Department Chairman. “The grant comes as a monthly stipend and allows mission priests to concentrate on guiding missions to full parish status.”

The number of grants awarded each year is directly related to the success of the OCA’s Annual Mission Appeal.

Further information and grant applications can be found on the OCA’s web site at 2005 Church Planting Grant Application. Deadline for completed applications, which must be reviewed and approved by each mission’s diocesan bishop before they are submitted, is August 31, 2004. The names of qualifying missions will be presented to the members of the Holy Synod of Bishops at their fall 2004 session for final approval. Missions currently receiving grants must reapply for second and third year grants.

Questions may be directed to Father Tosi by calling 702-898-4800; by writing to the OCA Department of Evangelization, 5400 Annie Oakley Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89120; or by sending an e-mail to evangelization@oca.org.
