World Peace Conference in Turkey

Turkey: May 11, 2004 (IOH News Service): Intercultural platform For World Peace Conference sponsored by International Journalists Association and ministry of culture of Turkey and heads of all major religions will be held on Thursday. May 11, to May 16, 2004 in Turkey.

Chor-Episcopos Prof. Dr. Kurian Thottupuram" the chief Editor of Indian Orthodox Herald is one of the speakers of the conference. He will present a paper on The Quest For Peace; An Early Christian Patristic perspective". He will also visit all Dayaras there.

The kick off ceremony of the conference will be at Kurkuma Dayara in Mardin-Harran. Thousands of Aramaic Christians attend the ceremony. Thereafter the symposiums will be held at Istanbul Basic Theme of the dialogue will be "Children of Abraham assembling for world peace". Many scholars from different parts of the world will present their papers at the conference.

The word “Culture” is an ambiguous term . But the Church and the social sciences are in general agreement that “Culture” does not belong to the ‘elitist’ concept of the educated. Culture embraces all aspects of human life in a given society – its values, beliefs, customs, forms of knowledge, art, morals, law, and habits. It is what makes people tick, what makes them to be who they are.

At a first glance it seems that the ancient dream of making the world one is finally becoming a reality- the sponsors of the conference believe. Yet a second look reveals a lot of “exclusion”. Often this is accompanied by structural, spiritual and physical violence. The decedents of Abraham (Jews, Christians and Muslims) are convinced that dialogue between cultures is an obligatory path to the building of a reconciled world.
