Erroneous Information in News Reports Christ Is Risen! I have read repeatedly the phrase "spiritual leader of the worlds Orthodox Christians" when referring to the Oecumenical Patriarch. I was under the impression that the Oecumenical Patriarch was "first among equals," that he occupied "a primacy of honour" and other benefits, but I was unaware that he had any ecclesiastical authority over any other Orthodox Christians outside his own diocese. I also read the following statement, "He is also considered the head of 14 autonomous Orthodox churches, including those of Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Russia and Serbia." I was under the impression that Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, and Serbia were autocephalous churches and not "autonomous." I can only imagine that Patriarchs Alexsy, Pavle, Maksim, not to mention Their Beatitudes Anastasios and Teoctist, would be quite suprised to learn that they no longer governed their own Patriarchates/Metropolias (see "Orthodox Church split with Greece" May 1st 2004.) I realize that several of these posts are from outside news sources; however, I think that you would be better served by clarifying such erroneous information in the future. I enjoy your posts, but we Orthodox should be very vigilant in making sure that at we do not republish incorrect information. Thank you,
