Faith: An endowment for Orthodoxy & Hellenism? “The Archdiocese of America announced on December 12 the formation of a new $100 million endowment whose purpose will be to promote the advancement of Orthodoxy and Hellenism in the U.S. According to the Archdiocese, the program, called “Faith: An Endowment for Orthodoxy & Hellenism” was organized by nine high-profile members of the Greek American community...” This is what was reported in this paper in our issue # 323 on December 20-21, 2003. And we commented on the same issue the following: “If we appear to be particularly enthusiastic about this development, it is because we are, provided that all we read in the announcement will be implemented, and more. The Endowment for Orthodoxy and Hellenism promises, in effect, to empower financially the Archdiocese so that it can carry out its mission in full and with dignity, as well as lay down strong foundations that will help ensure the future of this community. The announcement, having all the marks of the hand of Archbishop Demetrios, speaks clearly to this. The endowment is set up ‘[with] the sole purpose of funding the National Ministries and Institutions of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese,’ according to its mission statement.”
Well, what
happened to this endowment? Don’t we at least
deserve a progress report after so many months?
After all, wasn’t the Fund set up to help
institutions like Holy Cross? (Assuming it can be
helped.) |
