Ailing Iakovos Readmitted to Hospital

BOSTON - Former Archbishop Iakovos of North and South America was readmitted to a Connecticut hospital on Monday night, April 19. The Herald has learned that the former prelate of the Greek Orthodox Church of America for 37 years suffered a mild stroke, which has caused some difficulties in his movement, but did not affect his brain or his speech abilities. Archbishop Iakovos is expected to fully recover.

Iakovos was first admitted to the hospital on Holy Friday night. He stayed in all day on Holy Saturday and was discharged on Easter Sunday.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomaios sent Archbishop Iakovos recently a get-well letter.

Before departing to Constantinople for a two-day Synodal meeting on April 19 and 20, Archbishop Demetrios of America visited Iakovos.
